You're probably aware the BOAC has been trying to extend the runway for years in order to allow larger aircraft such as corporate jets to land here. First of all, if this runway extension would bring booming business like they want us to believe, most people can understand that if you live in that area, the additional noise created from these larger jets would certainly put a cramp in your day, or night of quiet enjoyment of your residence indoors and out. These people (area residents) should have something to say about that. They pay taxes that help support that airport but they have no say. But regardless, it's forced upon them by the BOAC because THEY would like to spend our tax dollars the way THEY SEE FIT. THEY HAVE THEIR OWN AGENDA They claim that the longer runway will bring business. PROVE IT! Doesn't industry usually go where there's easy access to trains and the major highways for shipping products etc ? Industry goes where the State, City or County gives them tax breaks. So that their business is more profitable Not because there's an airport in the town Our county is broke. We lost how many companies in this town???? And it's because we didn't have a long enough runway??? This is Monticello not INDY If people wanted to live in Indy they would be living there now. Lafayette had an airport, yet they didn't have enough business to support it and it's a much bigger town with easy access to I-65. How big is their runway? One example being used to support corporate use of our airport is Vera Sun (Reynolds' Bio-Town) it is mentioned as a weekly patron of the airport. But Vera Sun also filed for bankruptcy and was purchased by another company. Now construction in Reynolds has been suspended. They don't even mention White County Airport on their website. VeraSun It's not that we don't want to see things in this town improve, we do. BUT improvements are one thing, this is spending way out of control on a small town county airport. The changes they propose for this airport are expensive and our citizens are struggling to survive. They don't need their taxes raised, to support a county airport that overspends and benefits a select few. Use some common sense here. Their looking to spend 1 million dollars for a FENCE!! Our tax dollars should be spent to benefit most not a few individuals in our taxing district, and it needs to be spent where it is needed most. Or we could tax the residents right out of White County by making it unaffordable to live here anymore. You don't spend millions to improve or essentially rebuild a small county airport in hopes that if you build it , they will come.
Look at what happened with the Colts Stadium. Now (taxpayers) will have to have their taxes raised in order to support the new facility, cause it can't support itself.
Yes the ground was purchased, using tax dollars from the FAA, but more money was spent on the land purchase thanks to B.J. Mursener. He had property that was in the negotiation process to be purchased by the new White County Memorial Hospital. He didn't want the meager amount the BOAC offered to the family who owned the future runway property to be a comp used against his deal, and you can't blame the property owners for wanting a fair price for their land when Jordon and Mursener got 25k per acre for theirs. Doesn't it seem like they are creating an exclusive club for themselves paid for by our tax dollars? As usual the people with the big bucks are calling the shots. So why don't they pay for this boys club out of their own pocket? Cause they can use YOUR money instead! Wasting our tax dollars on Lavish Offices Did a new terminal building REALLY need to cost $775,000.00? Sure it's paid for in part via the FAA. But they went over budget AND the FAA did NOT fund 90% of it.
What you should know. The Facts.......... What they DONT NEED is MORE AUTHORITY! The current FBO John Townsend with Townsend Aviation is the one who is benefiting the most out of this deal. He runs a multi million dollar crop dusting business off of White County Airport using the lavish offices approved by the BOAC for FREE *His phone bill utilities internet connection and way overpriced offices are paid for by White County taxes His hanger where he runs an airplane mechanics shop is free. WHY? That hanger cost the taxpayers money in one way or another to build, didn't it? Also the expenses of the airport are far greater than what it brings in so who do you think pays the difference? YOU DO! Plus he makes a profit on the fuel. Pretty sweet set up huh? Seems like we are supporting HIS multi million dollar enterprise with the blessings of the BOAC BOAC BUDGET Yet the airport board that is suppose to encourage hanger rental kicks out individuals who have been paying rent for years just to leave the hangers empty. What sense does that make? The income rentals would help offset the expenses paid for by the county taxes. And the way they went about doing it was by changing the requirements a plane owner had to meet in order to keep a plane on the premises. These new rules were created illegally, and some of which are not even being followed by the operator or board members. Really seems like it was designed to exclude some people from having any right to use the White County airport or to interfere with the new manager's multi million dollar enterprise. The operator has abused our environment with his chemicals and fuel spills. Are you aware that places like the Lakeview Home which is struggling to keep their doors open, who are there to HELP our Unfortunate residents, could benefit greatly from just a fraction of what the BOAC is WASTING. How about another worthy cause like Happy Tails no kill animal shelter? They get no support what so ever. They too could benefit. What you can do about it. Very simple to do just click your selections and type in your name, and select the type of email program you use then send the file. Every person in your household that pays any kind of taxes, especially property taxes , Federal taxes, State, and County taxes, taxes on employee checks should sign this petition. This is how the BOAC can be stopped from creating an airport authority to raise our taxes even more. If no one knows about it they can get it passed. Then there's no going back!
